Choose the right credential
CBSPD offers multiple certifications. CSPDT is the general technician credential. The ambulatory surgery, flexible endoscope, instrument specialist, and management credentials have different eligibility and exams. Match the credential to the role and the employer's posting.
Prepare for the exam
Eligibility first
Identify your qualifying route, obtain the training certificate or employer verification it requires, and check the next exam window and registration deadline.
Study the actual outline
Use CBSPD's current candidate bulletin and content outline to organize review of decontamination, preparation and packaging, sterilization, distribution, documentation, and quality controls.
Use workplace practice
Connect each topic to manufacturer instructions for use, department policy, instrument tracking, and the steps you perform. Ask a lead or educator to review gaps in your preparation.
Plan renewal
CBSPD technician certification is valid for five years. Check the current continuing education and renewal rules early enough to document qualifying activity.
What employers may ask
A credential can meet a screening requirement, but a hiring manager will also ask about the instruments, sterilization modalities, service lines, shifts, and tracking systems you know. Read each posting for whether certification is required at hire or within a stated period.
