Overview

Decontaminate, clean, process, and sterilize supplies and equipment dispensed by the department, following infection control practices and guidelines.

Responsibilities



  • Follows manufacturer instructions for use for steam and low temperature sterilization

  • Follows manufacturer instructions for use for decontamination, disinfection of instruments, and flexible endoscopes according to department standards and industry guidelines

  • Demonstrates knowledge of surgical instrument kits

  • Demonstrates knowledge of how to properly inspect and assemble kits

  • Adheres to hospital policies for CSR as well as follow AAMI guidelines (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instruments

  • Performs equipment testing: Bowies and Biologicals, and reports any abnormal results to the supervisor

  • Delivery of sterile instruments and kits in a timely manner, within 48 hours, to other departments within the hospital

  • Maintains a clean work environment in accordance to regulator guidelines and hospital policy. Damp dusting horizontal surfaces, end of day cleaning, removal of trash and laundry

  • Attends staff meetings and in services

  • Stays up to date on departmental communication and required annual and periodical competencies

  • Participates in orientation of new staff as needed

  • Completes other daily tasks as requested and assigned

  • Performs job specific requirements and other duties as assigned

  • Answer the phone and take messages when needed

  • Help with different reps that come in with trays or help with them taking trays out

  • Help the OR when they are looking for a kit or instrument


Qualifications



  • High school diploma or GED

  • After one full time year of work experience, obtain central sterile certification.


Required Licensure/Certifications

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:
Central Sterile certification required 18 months years of hire; to be obtained through CBSPD.
